PsyD, LPC, LMHC
Let's get one thing out of the way: you don't need to arrive at therapy already half-healed, pre-organized, or having done the reading. You're allowed to show up uncertain, exhausted, and still figuring out the question — let alone the answer. That's actually the whole point.
I'm Del Knight, a dual-licensed therapist (Oregon LPC, Washington LMHC) and founder of Soma Roots Therapy. I work with adults navigating trauma, gender identity, body image, sexuality, spirituality, race and ethnicity, and the particular kind of tired that comes from moving through a world that wasn't built with you in mind. My practice is grounded in IFS-informed, Gestalt, somatic, and trauma-informed approaches — plus a decolonial framework that takes seriously the reality that many of our wounds aren't just personal. They're political. They're historical. And they live in the body.
Healing here looks less like fixing and more like listening — to your nervous system, your history, your parts, and the wisdom already living in you that colonial, white-supremacist, and pathologizing systems have spent a long time telling you wasn't there. We're going to respectfully disagree with those systems.
My approach is rooted in a core belief that you are the expert on your own life. I'm not here to hand you a roadmap to some standardized version of "healed." I'm here as a companion — curious, warm, boundaried, and occasionally funny — who helps you find your own footing. That means we collaborate on goals and pace, we check in about what's working, we name discomfort when it shows up, and we celebrate the tiny, awkward, hopeful steps that often matter more than the cinematic breakthroughs. Sending one brave email counts. Feeling your feet on the floor counts.
I'm WPATH-informed and offer gender-affirming care letters and assessments for clients exploring medical transition. I hold an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential and have worked extensively with queer, trans, nonbinary, and two-spirit communities — not as an outsider looking in, but as someone who brings both clinical training and lived experience to this work.
A word on sustainability: healing is more like nurturing a forest than flipping a light switch. I've designed my practice — including my pace, my caseload, and my business model — to be something both clients and clinicians can actually sustain. That means rest, humor, and honesty are built into the ecosystem here, not bolted on as an afterthought.
All sessions are telehealth (Zoom), conducted Monday through Thursday. I accept a variety of commericial insurances, as well has have a variety of payment options (check out our website for details) and offer a free 20-minute consultation so we can get a feel for each other before committing to anything. No heavy paperwork upfront — just a real conversation.
If any part of this resonated, I'd love to connect.
